It has been suggested that lipid emulsions in parenteral nutrition that contain omega 3 are superior because they cause less complications. Objective:Evaluate changes un the hepatic function of newborns that received prolonged parenteral nutrition with omega 3 lipid emulsions. Materials and Method: A observational descriptive longitudinal retrospective was made with information collected from the clinical histories of new borns hospitalized in Foundation Cardioinfantil that received prolonged parenteral nutrition with omega 3 lipid emulsions during 2014 -2015. Hepatic function y clinical diagnose was observed. Results: 24 new borns where included in which it was observed that bilirubin, AST and ALT levels increased by the sixth week of hospitalization and then descended by the end of the hospitalization, data which did not reveal a cause and effect relationship with the presence of cholestasis. Conclusion: They were no significant changes found in the hepatic function that indicate cholestasis in newborns which received prolonged parenteral nutrition with omega 3 lipid emulsions at week 2 of treatment and before discharge, although 3 newborns presented high values of the AST before discharge, this not representative of cholestasis.es
