Due to trade opening and new free trade agreements that have taken effect recently in Colombia, many subsectors of Colombian economy have been affected by the lack of the competitiveness of domestic products against imports. In the case of the potato subsector, potato imports from the United States have increased significantly since the NAFTA came into force in 2012.
