abstract = {The following paper shows the current situation of the automotive sector in Colombia through the opportunities and threats presented today by the sector from the global economic situation and the importance of the automotive sector for the world and other sectors of the economy given their conditions of drag due to the impact of globalization and holding the new free trades for the country.
The importance of the sector is identified because of their direct relationship by growing number of vehicles sold with GDP growth of the economy and its importance as a support for the growth of other sectors of the economy and because of this the importance of knowing the characterization industry to identify factors overcrowding and define strategies to increase sustainability through differentiation.
Therefore it is necessary to characterize the sector in terms of the channels used, levels of innovation, the high level of imports and new players in the market due to its high level of competitiveness to identify where Colombian companies could innovate allowing relieve overcrowding and increase their competitiveness in the market.},
