The first part is focussed on a migration process reconstruction, in order to discuss and rethink the decline in said phenomenon to a purely economic basis. To achieve this, the initial element of the paper addresses specific features such as immigrant conditions, migrant networks and the general perceptions by those directly involved in it; to propose that simple matters like “adventure” or “let’s see what happens” could determine the displacement of Colombians abroad. The second part is focussed on the subsequent analysis of the integration process which takes place when immigrants come into contact with the cultural universe of their host society. In order to attempt to delve into this aspect, this paper follows approaches such as a race relations cycle, interactionism and symbolic violence, enabling a relevant discussion of the phenomenon entailing the Colombian emigration context. This thesis is based on three complementary methodological approaches: reconstruction and analysis of life stories, short ethnographic immersion and participant observation. Due to this combination, the complex data discussion in it permits the reader to recognize and debate on previous factors vaguely investigated and, in addition, allows further and profound consideration of the population in the near future.
