To date, no studies have been conducted on NEC mortality in Colombia. Objectives: To determine the behavior of NEC mortality in Colombia between 1998 and 2018. Methodology: Analytical, longitudinal, observational study, time series of a follow-up cohort. Mortality records for NEC, reported between 1998 and 2018, were taken from the DANE database. Mortality rates per NEC in Colombia between 1998 and 2018 were calculated and the mortality trend in the country and by department was determined, and a time series analysis was carried out using standardized rates. The association between ECN and gross domestic product (GDP) was determined. Results: Between 1998 and 2018, 5345 deaths were recorded per NEC, of which 80.3% were under 27 days. 43% of the population weighed less than 1500 grams at birth. The death rate from NEC in Colombia was between 2.4/100,000 and 4.0/100,000 live births. No relationship was found between NEC mortality and GDP. Discussion: The NEC mortality rate in Colombia between 1998 and 2018 was lower than that reported in the literature in other countries. No trend was determined for Colombia, but a decrease in mortality was observed from 2002 onwards.
