Physical and social discomfort worsens patient quality of life. CU has an important impact on patients' economy. Objective: To evaluate the relationship of quality of life (QoL) with economic burden and chronic urticaria control of in patients treated at our center. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, observational study. We included CU-diagnosed adult patients. The CU-Q2oL and UCT questionnaires in Spanish and the economic burden and comorbidities questionnaire developed by our center were applied. A sample size of 36 patients was calculated. Results: 36 patients were included, out of which 58.3% were females. Mean age was 39.9 ± 15.6 years. Regarding QoL, 66.7% of patients reported being "A little" affected, 25% "Somewhat" and 8.3% "A lot", and its relationship with monthly income yielded a p-value of 0.017. 38.9% of patients reported having a monthly income of less than $ 5000 pesos. When disease control was compared with the CU-Q2oL, a significant difference was obtained for questions concerning itching. Conclusion: There was association between the quality of life of patients with chronic urticaria and monthly income, the lower the income, the more will the quality of life be affected. Furthermore, greater CU control was observed to reduce the negative effects on quality of life caused by itching. Our aim is to study further anxiety symptoms on CIU patients. Both CIU patients and the control group were studied by means of validated scales for psychopathology symptoms, psychological variables and quality of life. In this study, we reported high levels of anxiety symptoms. We found statistically significant correlations between anxiety symptoms, some personality dimensions, insecure attachment styles, alexithymia and with some quality of life dimensions. CIU patients exhibit high levels of psychological distress that could potentiate difficulties at several domains, namely social, emotional, general health perception and interpersonal relationships. © The Author(s) 2011. This study was aimed to determine the expression of SERT in the skin of patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and its relation to depression and anxiety. In this case–control study, 30 CSU patients and 30 healthy controls were evaluated with skin biopsies to evaluate the expression of the SERT protein based on histopathologic findings. Beck depression and anxiety inventories were used to investigate depression and anxiety in the case group. Data were analyzed by SPSS software. P values < 0.05 were considered significant. The case group showed significantly higher percentage of stained cells (P < 0.0001) and intensity of SERT expression (P < 0.0001) compared with the control group. The patients with uncontrolled CSU showed significantly higher percentage (P < 0.002) and intensity (P < 0.006) of SERT expression, compared with those with controlled CSU. The intensity of SERT expression in CSU patients had no significant correlation with the severity of depression, but was significantly correlated with the severity of anxiety (r = 0.555; P = 0.001). The percentage of stained cells was significantly correlated with the severities of depression (r = − 0.433; P = 0.017) and anxiety (r = 0.528; P = 0.003). The SERT expression in patients with CSU was higher compared with controls, which can demonstrate the role of serotonin in the pathogenesis of this disease. This higher SERT expression is correlated with the severity of the disease. Eighty-eight CU patients, who applied to an outpatient clinic of Clinical Immunology and Allergic Diseases, filled out a questionnaire set including State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Ways of Coping Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory. The results suggested that CU patients high on trait anxiety reported more depressive symptoms, and the ones using more problem-focused coping (PFC) strategies reported less depressive symptoms. Also, PFC strategies moderated trait anxiety-depressive symptoms relation. Accordingly, PFC strategies did not lead to any significant difference in CU patients who were low on trait anxiety in terms of the level of depressive symptoms. However, CU patients with high trait anxiety experienced significantly less depressive symptoms if they used more PFC strategies. The findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. Patients presenting to dermatologists today are more sophisticated and are frequently dissatisfied with traditional medical therapies. They actively seek alternative approaches and adjuncts to standard treatments. In contrast to many other "alternative" (or) "holistic" treatments offered through non-medical venues, dermatologists can assure their patients that controlled studies support the efficacy of psychocutaneous techniques in improving many dermatologic conditions. Psoriasis, rosacea, herpes simplex, body dysmorphic disorder, acne, eczema, urticaria, neurotic excoriations, excoriated acne, trichotillomania, dysesthetic syndromes, and delusions parasitosis are included in this incomplete list. The author believes it is helpful for both the patient and therapist to define concrete and realistic goals for psychocutaneous intervention. Concrete observable or measurable goals can help the patient and clinician gauge therapeutic progress and success. Specifically, goals can include reduction in pruritus (rating severity from 1-10), decreased scratching activity, decreased plaque extent or thickness, decreased number of urticarial plaques, decreased flushing, decreased anxiety, decreased anger, decreased social embarrassment, decreased social withdrawal, and improved sleep. More global goals can include an improved sense of well-being, increased sense of control, and enhanced acceptance of some of the inevitable aspects of a given skin disease. Cure should never be a goal, because most disorders amenable to psychocutaneous techniques are chronic in nature; thus, cure as an endpoint would only lead to disappointment. The author encourages dermatologists to align themselves with what he euphemistically calls "a skin-emotion specialist. A random sample was drawn from the general population aged 18–74 years, based on electoral precincts. Socioeconomic status was estimated by combining net household income with the highest education of respondents. A total of 7,904 subjects were included in this analysis. The lifetime prevalence of “contact dermatitis” ranged from 13.1% (95% confidence interval (95% CI 11.8– 14.4%) in subjects with low socioeconomic status, to 19.1% (95% CI 17.5–20.8%) in those with high socioeconomic status. In younger subjects skin cancer was more prevalent in the middle or high socioeconomic status groups compared with the low socioeconomic status group (odds ratio 2.4; 95% CI 1.4–4.3); however, this effect was not found in elderly subjects. The lifetime prevalence for at least one atopic disease was 61.2% (95% CI 59.4–63.0%) in the low and 82.8% (95% CI 81.1–84.3%) in the high socioeconomic status group. Individuals with middle or high socioeconomic status reported an overall higher prevalence of skin and atopic diseases compared with those with low socioeconomic status. These findings may reflect differences in reporting, which are likely to result in an un-derdiagnoses, especially for skin cancer in the younger age groups with low socioeconomic status. CU reduces quality of life and can also cause emotional distress. Studies addressing depression and anxiety in such patients are rare in the literature. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between urticaria symptoms and depression and anxiety in patients with CU. Material/Methods: The Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate depression and anxiety in patients with CU. We included 50 patients with CU and a control group of 60 healthy volunteers. Urticaria activity score, medications, age, sex, comorbidities, occupation, and income of patients were recorded. Depression and anxiety scores were evaluated between the patient and the healthy groups. Results: The HADS questionnaire showed that 24 (48%) subjects in the patient group had depressive symptoms and 24 (48%) had anxiety, and both of these conditions were significantly more frequent than in controls (p=0.002 and p=0.001). The mean anxiety and depression scores ±SD were 10.82±4.29 and 7.74±4.49 in the patient group and 6.42±3.02 and 4.85±3.26, in the control group respectively (p=0.001). The mean score of the UAS ±SD was 23.14±13.40 and a significant positive correlation between UAS and the anxiety and depression scores was observed (r=0.400; p=0.004 and r=0.373; p=0.004, respectively). Conclusions: Our data demonstrated that depression and anxiety symptoms are more common in patients with CU than in the control group. Objective: Our aim was to provide a clinical data checklist together with its guide to allow for thorough information to be obtained and for a physical exam that identifies the main features and triggering factors of the disease to be carried out. Methods: A search was conducted for relevant literature on chronic urticaria in Medline, the Cochrane library and PubMed. Results: We developed an easy-to-use clinical data checklist with its corresponding clinical guide, comprised by 42 items based on two components: essential clues for history taking and chronic urticaria diagnosis (typical symptoms according to subgroups, etiology and laboratory results). Some components are the time of disease onset, wheals' duration, shape, size, color and distribution, associated angioedema, atopy, triggering factors and others. Conclusions: The clinical data checklist and its guide constitute a tool to focus, guide and save time in medical consultation, with the main purpose to aid physicians in providing better diagnosis and management of the disease. Based on existing literature, depression during this period is associated with negative consequences for the mother and the baby. Therefore it is important to make an adequate screening in this population. The aim of this study was to determine the discriminant validity and cut-off of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) as a screening tool to identify the depression in pregnant women living in Spain. Method: The sample included 1,019 female participants, aged between 19 and 45 years, who participated voluntarily, and received prenatal care during the first trimester. Participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, PHQ-2 andPHQ-9. The research has been developed within the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at two public hospitals in two different Spanish Regions. The research was conducted between 2014 and 2016 performing a ROC curve analysis to determine the discriminative capacity and cut-off for PHQ-2. Results: 11,1 % out of 1019 participants were diagnosed with depression. The area under the curve of PHQ-2 was 0,84 p <0,001. With the cutoff 2 the sensitivity and specificity of 85,4 % and 79,5% respectively Conclusions: A score ≥2 is an appropriate cut-off in PHQ-2 to detect depression during pregnancy. The use of PHQ-2 could precede PHQ-9 as a brief screening tool for antenatal depression in obstetric settings. Chronic urticaria may be either spontaneous or induced. Few tools are available for monitoring the various clinical forms of this disease or for evaluating its impact on quality of life. The recently developed Urticaria Control Test to evaluate disease control is available in German, the original language, and American English. OBJECTIVE: To culturally adapt the long and short versions of the Urticaria Control Test to Castilian Spanish to ensure equivalence between the translated items and those of the original version. MATERIAL AND METHODS: To translate the Urticaria Control Test we followed the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research good practice guidelines, starting with forward translation and moving through back translation and cognitive debriefing steps. RESULTS: Three items were modified when the first Spanish version, translated from German, was discussed (cognitive debriefing). The revised translation was then translated back to German and sent to the Urticaria Control Test authors, who modified one item they considered had acquired a different focus through translation. A third Spanish version was then prepared and after minor proofreading changes was considered definitive. CONCLUSIONS: This study was the first step in making it possible to use the Urticaria Control Test questionnaire in Castilian Spanish. The next step will be to validate the translated questionnaire. The intensity of pruritus and density of involvement compromise a patient's lifestyle as well as aggravate stressors that affect physical and psychiatric conditions. The burden of illness is significant in not only costs for emergent practitioner visits, but, often, unnecessary laboratory testing and medication expenses. Questionnaires that assess a patient's QoL serve to document benefit to therapies. Objectively documenting changes that are important to patients with urticaria and/or angioedema allows the patients and clinician to accurately assess effectiveness of therapies over long periods of time. Specific surveys that address urticaria (CU-Q2oL and UAS) and angioedema (AE-QoL questionnaire) allow simplified and sensitive assessments for patients with the corresponding condition. Common components of appropriate surveys assess not only intensity of pruritus and wheals but also impact on sleep, interpersonal relationships, and appearances. In considering the most important aspects of several surveys, an example of a survey is provided that focuses on the patient's perception of how their urticaria and/or angioedema impacts their QoL. A systematic review of the existing evidence.pdf N2 - Purpose: It has been observed that certain patients with chronic spontaneous or idiopathic urticaria (CSU/CIU) have a personal history of a significant stressor before urticaria onset, while the prevalence of any psychopathology among these patients is significantly higher than in healthy individuals. Research has confirmed that skin is both an immediate stress perceiver and a target of stress responses. These complex interactions between stress, skin, and the nervous system may contribute to the onset of chronic urticaria. This systematic review investigated the association between CSU/CIU and neuroimmune inflammation with or without evidence of co-existing psychological stress from in vivo and ex vivo studies in human beings. Methods: PubMed and Scopus were searched to September 2019 for reports in human beings describing neuroimmune inflammation, stress, and CSU/CIU. A comprehensive search strategy was used that included all the relevant synonyms for the central concept. Findings: A total of 674 potentially relevant articles were identified. Only 13 satisfied the predefined inclusion criteria and were included in the systematic review. Five of these 13 studies evaluated the correlation between CSU/CIU, stress, and neuro-immune-cutaneous factors, while the remaining 8 focused on the association between CSU/CIU and these factors without examining any evidence of stress. Implications: The complex neuro-immune-cutaneous model that involves numerous neuropeptides and neurokinins, inflammatory mediators and cells, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis hormones, and the skin may better explain the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the onset of urticaria. In addition, the elevated psychological stress level that has been closely related to CSU/CIU could be attributed to the imbalance or irregularity of this neuro-immune-cutaneous circuit. It is still unclear and must be further investigated whether any psychological stress results in or triggers CSU/CIU onset on top of a preexisting neuroimmune dysregulation. Nevertheless, new psycho-phenotypic or neuro-endotypic CSU/CIU subsets should be considered as the era of personalized treatment strategies emerges. A better understanding of CSU/CIU pathophysiology and consideration of the patient as a whole is vital for identifying targets for new potential treatment options ER - TY - JOUR T1 - Prevalencia de la urticaria crónica y su perfil clínico epidemiológico A1 - Cruz-Hernández, Armando A1 - Caballero-López, Gengyny A1 - López-García, Aida A1 - Rivero-Yeverino, Daniela A1 - Arana-Muñoz, Oswaldo A1 - Sergio Papaqui-Tapia, José A1 - Ortega-López, Lorena A1 - Guadalupe Rosales-Blanco, Alexis A1 - Pablo Ruiz-Márquez, Israel A1 - Valle-Rodríguez, Francisco Y1 - 2019/// KW - Palabras clave KW - Prevalencia KW - urticaria crónica JF - Aergia, Asma e Inmunología Pediátricas VL - 28 IS - 2 SP - 47 EP - 50 L1 - file:///Users/Jenn/Documents/prevalencia de urticari cronica y su perfil clinico epidemiologico.pdf N2 - Introducción: La urticaria crónica se define como la aparición de ronchas o habones en forma transitoria asociada a prurito y/o angioedema, con duración mayor de seis semanas, su prevalencia oscila entre 0.05 y 5%. We used a multidisciplinary approach, including dermatologists and psychologist, to characterize clinically and psychologically patients with psoriasis. Methods: clinical and demographic data were collected in patients with psoriasis, also classified severity and quality of life using Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI), Body Surface Area (BSA), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36) questionnaire. Mood and anxiety were assessed by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), self-schematics by the Scheme Questionnaires (CIE), personality traits by the Personality Belief Questionnaire (PBQ-SF), and coping strategies by the modified Coping Strategies Scale (EEC-M). Results: ninety-six patients were included, 45.8% had moderatedsevere psoriasis. The average DLQI score was 7.35 points, a 78.1% reported impact in quality of life. A statistically significant association was found between dermatologic quality of life and disease severity. Anxiety disorders predominate over depressive disorders, 59.4% of patients reported some level of family dysfunction. The most common personality disorders were schizoid, obsessive-compulsive, and passive-aggressive. Personality disorders associated with lower dermatologic quality of life index were obsessive-compulsive and passive-aggressive type. A significant association was found between lower quality of life and aggressive acting-out. Antihistamines and omalizumab are the mainstay therapies of CU. Additional treatment options are needed. Here, we review the off and beyond label use of licensed drugs, novel treatments that are currently under development, and promising new targets. Data Sources: MEDLINE was searched for recent reports of the successful use of treatments in CU and promising targets for the development of novel treatment options. We also searched ClinicalTrials.gov for recent and ongoing randomized clinical trials in CU. Study Selections: Relevant articles were selected and reviewed. Results: Omalizumab, the treatment of choice in patients with antihistamine-resistant chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), should be explored for use in chronic inducible urticaria in children younger than 12 years with CSU and at higher doses. The off-label use of dupilumab, reslizumab, mepolizumab, and benralizumab can be effective in CU. Ligelizumab and UB-221, 2 novel anti-IgE monoclonal antibodies, are in clinical trials for CU. Other promising drugs that are currently under development for CU are a chemoattractant receptor–homologous molecule expressed on TH2 cell antagonist, a monoclonal antibody to Siglec-8 (AK002), Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (fenebrutinib and Lou064), a spleen tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and dupilumab. Promising targets of future therapies include the Mas-related G-protein–coupled receptor X2; the histamine4 receptor; C5a and its receptor; inhibitory mast cell receptors other than Siglec-8; interleukin 33, interleukin 25, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin, and stem cell factor. Conclusion: Novel and better treatments for CU are very much needed. Some agents are in clinical trials already (eg, ligelizumab), and additional ones should be developed, making use of the many promising targets recently identified and characterized. The objective of this study was to systematically evaluate and summarize the prevalence of chronic urticaria by evaluating population-based studies worldwide. Methods: We performed a systematic search in PUBMED and EMBASE for population-based studies of cross-sectional or cohort design and studies based on health insurance/system databases. Risk of bias was assessed using a specific tool for prevalence studies. For meta-analysis, we used a random effects model. Results: Eighteen studies were included in the systematic evaluation and 11 in the meta-analysis including data from over 86 000 000 participants. Risk of bias was mainly moderate, whereas the statistical heterogeneity (I2) between the studies was high. Asian studies combined showed a higher point prevalence of chronic urticaria (1.4%, 95%-CI 0.5-2.9) than those from Europe (0.5%, 0.2-1.0) and Northern American (0.1%, 0.1-0.1). Women were slightly more affected than men, whereas in children < 15 years we did not find a sex-specific difference in the prevalence. The four studies that examined time trends indicated an increasing prevalence of chronic urticaria over time. Conclusions: On a global level, the prevalence of chronic urticaria showed considerable regional differences. We aimed to investigate the presence of anxiety, depression, and stress in Korean adult CU patients and to explore their potential impact on treatment. Methods: We enrolled 79 CU patients and a disease control group comprising 39 persistent asthma patients. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate depression and anxiety. Stress and quality of life (QoL) were assessed by Stress Response Inventory and CU-QoL questionnaires. The sociodemographic and clinical data such as urticaria activity score (UAS-15, UAS-6) were obtained. Results: The prevalence of depression and anxiety based on the HADS were 48.1% and 38.0%. Although the prevalence of anxiety didn't differ between the CU and asthma patients, depression was significantly more prevalent in the CU patients (48.1% vs. 28.2%). Stress tended to be lower in CU patients. Anxiety, depression, and stress exhibited negative correlations with QoL. Anxiety showed significant correlation with UAS-6 and pruritus-visual analog scale (VAS; r = 0.256, r = 0.272, p < 0.05, respectively); depression correlated with sleep difficulty-VAS (r = 0.261, p < 0.05). Stress was associated with UAS-15, UAS-6, pruritus-VAS, and sleep difficulty-VAS (r = 0.251, r = 0.317, r = 0.302, r = 0.258, p < 0.05, respectively). Conclusion: The current study first presented that Korean CU patients frequently have anxiety and depression, which affect their QoL and demonstrated that anxiety, depression, and stress had different effects on sleep difficulty, pruritus, and urticaria severity in Korean CU patients. This study's aim was to assess for the first time the psychometric properties of the Spanish translated versions of the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), which are widely used both in medical care and clinical research. Patients and Method: A cohort, observational, prospective and multicentre study was conducted in clinically stable or unstable patients with AfD and AnD. The scales were administered at baseline and in a second study visit one week or 2 months later (to stable or unstable patients, respectively). The internal consistency, temporary stability, inter-raters reliability, factorial structure, convergent and discriminant validity, and sensitivity to change were all assessed for both scales. Results: One hundred and eight AfD patients and 106 AnD patients were recruited in 10 psychiatry care centres from a wide geographical distribution. Both scales showed adequate properties in terms of: a) discriminant validity (MADRS/HARS-Clinical Global Impression: p < 0.001); b) convergent validity (MADRS-Hamilton Depression Rating Scale: p < 0.05 and 0.01; MADRS/HARS-EuroQoL 5D: p < 0.05; HARS-State Trait Anxiety Inventory: p < 0.05); c) internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha: MADRS = 0.88; HARS = 0.89); d) test-retest and inter-raters reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient: MADRS = 0.94 and 0.98, respectively; HARS = 0.92 and 0.92), and, e) sensitivity to change (effect size: MADRS = 2.05; HARS = 1.36). Conclusions: Spanish versions of MADRS and HARS scales showed good psychometric properties, similar to those of the original scales. Therefore, these scales are suitable for use in clinical practice and research in Spain. Previous studies have demonstrated significant comorbidity between CSU and a wide range of mental illnesses. In this study we aimed to focus on the association between CSU and anxiety and depression, using an optimized matched controlled design. A nationwide matched control study was conducted using the Clalit Health Services (CHS) database. The study included 12,539 CSU patients and 60,510 age and sex matched controls. Three multiple logistic regression models were conducted to assess the association between CSU and anxiety and depression, while adjusting for age, sex, socioeconomic status (SES), diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and smoking status. A higher frequency of anxiety and depression was found in CSU patients compared to that in controls (anxiety frequency of 9.6% vs. 5.7%, p < 0.001; depression frequency of 11% vs 7.9%, p < 0.001, respectively) after adjustment for demographic and clinical factors. The association of CSU with anxiety was the strongest in the 18–29 age group, and in the high SES group, while the association of CSU with depression was the highest in the 50–69 age group, and in the low SES group. Chronic spontaneous urticaria is associated with anxiety and depression. In light of the clinical implications of a comorbid mental disorder, dermatologists should consider employing mental health screening procedures, especially for patients from specific risk groups. When the psychological symptoms are mild, as is often the case in dermatology, it can be difficult to distinguish between normality and the manifestations of a mental disorder. To facilitate the distinction we review the concept of mental disorder in the present article. It is also important to have instruments that can facilitate early detection of psychological disease, i.e. when the symptoms are still mild. Short, simple, self-administered questionnaires have been developed to help dermatologists and other health professionals identify the presence of a mental disorder with a high degree of certainty. In this article, we focus on the questionnaires most often used to detect the 2 most common mental disorders: anxiety and depression. Finally, we describe the circumstances in which it is advisable to refer a dermatological patient to a psychiatrist, who can diagnose and treat the mental disorder in accordance with standard protocols. Androgenetic alopecia (aga) is a common hair loss disease, typically observed as a benign process with mostly cosmetic consequences. Recently the psychological, psychosocial and individual’s overall quality of life have been described. Objective: to assess the impact of alopecia on quality of life and certain psychological domains such as depression and anxiety by using validated questionnaires. Methods: sixty-five patients with androgenetic alopecia were studied and age and gender were reported. Every patient was evaluated to assess the impact of quality of life (dlqi), anxiety (Zung’s scale) and depression (Zung’s scale). Results: sixty-five patients with androgenetic alopecia were studied. 80% (n = 52) male and 20% (n =13) female. The mean dlqi score was 13.21, findings indicate that in the majority of patients had a low qol. The mean in Zung’s depression scale was 59.63 and the mean in Zung’s anxiety scale was 62.4, this also shows psychological disturbance in the studied patients. Conclusion: androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness, is the most common type of progressive hair loss disorder in men, and the main reason for dermatological consultation. It is important that physicians consider the psychosocial impact of aga on diverse areas of patient’s lives. Physicians need to offer relevant treatment not just for hair loss, but also for emotional distress, and design consultations and interventions according to the patient, to improve physical and mental outcomes as well as qol in alopecia patients. Objectives To estimate the frequency of IU in patients with CSU and to explore possible factors associated with CSU. Methods Patients older than 12 years diagnosed with CSU and a control group with no history of urticaria were recruited from 2 different cities. All patients were questioned about triggers associated with exacerbation of urticaria, and challenge tests were performed for symptomatic dermographism, pressure, cold, water, and exercise. Atopy to mites and self-reactivity to autologous serum were evaluated using skin tests. Results The study population comprised 245 patients with CSU and 127 controls. Of the patients with CSU, 186 (75.9%) reported a physical trigger, although only 89 (36.3%) had a positive challenge test result. The challenge tests showed that symptomatic dermographism was the most common type of IU, affecting 24.8% of the CSU group, followed by cold, which affected 13.4%. In the control group, 3.9% of patients were positive for symptomatic dermographism. People living in Medellín city had a higher frequency of symptomatic dermographism 28.5% (odds ratio, 2.1; 95% CI, 1-4.4; P =.03) and cold urticaria 16.5% (odds ratio, 3.3; 95% CI, 1.125-9.8; P =.02) than did people living in Bogotá (dermographism 14.4% and cold 5.2%). Atopy and self-reactivity were more frequent in patients with CSU than in the control group. Conclusions Physical triggers must be verified by challenge tests to avoid unnecessary lifestyle restrictions. Environmental factors such as geographical characteristics could play a key role in the development of some types of IU, whereas atopy and self-reactivity are major risk factors for CSU. Dermatologic conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and generalized pruritus are often found to be associated with psychological disorders such as anxiety. Previous studies have found a high prevalence (35% to 60%) of psychiatric comorbidities in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). 1 , 2 , 3 Anxiety, depression, and somatoform disorders are among the most prevalent disorders in patients with CSU. 1 Chronic spontaneous urticaria affect everyday life, causing limitation and impairment of physical and emotional functioning, often because of constant itching and occurrence of wheals that can lead to social withdrawal, sedation, and fatigue induced by antihistamines. 2 We have undertaken this study to determine the need for routine screening for early diagnosis and management of mental disorders in CSU.
