ANTECEDENTES: Existe limitada información sobre el nivel de conocimientos, actitudes y prácticas de la población universitaria bogotana sobre el uso de fotoprotección. OBJETIVO: Describir el nivel de conocimiento, actitudes, prácticas y percepciones de estudiantes de pregrado de la Universidad del Rosario frente al uso de fotoprotección. METODOLOGÍA: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal, muestreo no probabilístico. Se recolectó la información por medio de una encuesta a estudiantes de pregrado de la Universidad del Rosario de todos los programas. La recolección se realizó de agosto a septiembre de 2017. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo, análisis bivariado y multivariado con el fin de explorar la posible asociación entre las variables de conocimiento, actitudes/percepciones y el uso de protector solar. Se estimarón OR crudas y ajustadas con sus IC al 95%. RESULTADOS: Se encuestaron 216 estudiantes, en su mayoría mujeres (n=143,66.2%), el grupo de edad de 19-23 años (n= 134, 62.0% ) fue el más predominante. El 71% de los estudiantes usan el protector solar, pero presentan un uso inapropiado. En el análisis multivariado se encontró que el ser hombre disminuye la probabilidad del uso de protector solar (OR=0,004 IC: 95% 0,0 - 0,1), cuando se ajusta por variables explicativas. La capacidad explicativa del modelo fue cercana al 51.7%. CONCLUSIONES: El nivel de conocimiento sobre la fotoprotección es bajo y hay diferencias por género, las mujeres saben más que los hombres, sin embargo en ambos géneros no se hace con la frecuencia y con la indicación ideal. El ser mujer se asocia con una probabilidad mayor del uso de protección solar.
Abstract
BACKGROUND: There is limited information about the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of Bogotá university population concerning the use of photoprotection. OBJECTIVE: Describe the level of knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions of undergraduate students of the Universidad del Rosario against the use of photoprotection. METHODOLOGY: Descriptive cross-sectional study, non-probabilistic sampling. The information was collected through a survey of undergraduate students of the Universidad del Rosario. The collection was carried out from August to September 2017. A descriptive analysis, bivariate and multivariate analysis was carried out in order to explore the possible association between knowledge variables, attitudes/perceptions and the use of sunscreen. OR were estimated raw and adjusted with their 95% CI. RESULTS: A total of 216 students were interviewed, mostly women (n = 143,66.2%), the age group of 19-23 years old (n = 134, 62.0%) was more predominant. 71% of students use sunscreen, but they present an inappropriate use. In the multivariate analysis it was found that being male decreases the probability of using sunscreen (OR = 0.004 IC: 95% 0.0 - 0.1), when adjusted by explanatory variables. The explanatory capacity of the model was close to 51.7%. CONCLUSIONS: The level of knowledge about photoprotection is low, and there are diferrences by gender, the woman know more tan man, but in both gender, it is not done with the frequency and with the ideal indication. Being a woman is associated with a greater probability of using sunscreen.
