Resumen
Recife en inicios del siglo XX era una ciu dad en la que el crecimiento de la industria y el aumento de la población acentuaban la carencia de viviendas. El hábitat obrero es tema de denunda de los higienistas, de los obreros y del Estado. Así, el ensayo se refie re al nuevo proyecto de organización terri torial de Recífe, al discurso de la necesidad de extinción de las chabolas y la construc ción de barrios de viviendas sociales. Tam bién describe Camaragibe, una industria situada a 16 kilómetros de Recife, en la que se construyeron viviendas en torno al nú cleo industrial. La investigación documen - tal utilizó las siguientes fuentes: 1) el archivo de la fábrica de Camaragibe en el Institu - to Joaqui m Nabuco de Pesquisas Sociais (FUNDAJ); 2) en la hemeroteca, diversos periódicos, con el objetivo de captar el ha bla de varios segmentos sociales y su visión de la sociedad en que vivían y 3) las Leyes del Estado; estas dos últimas fuentes en el Archivo Público de Pernambuco. En resu men, la construcción de viviendas sociales en inicios del siglo XX en Recife representó una nueva organización territorial, barrios enteros fueran creados y permanecen hasta hoy los espacios obreros de la ciudad.
Abstract
At the beginning of the twenty century, Recife was a city in which the industry developmcnt and the increase of the population emphasize the lack of dwellings. The workers habitat has been a proclamation subject of the hygienists, the workers and the State. So, this essay refers to the new territorial organization project of Recife,. to th e speech of the necessi ty of to extinguish the slums and to bu ild neighborhoods of social dwellings. The text also narrares about Camaragibe, an industry whose localization is 16 km from Recife, where houses was buil t around the indus trial centre. The documental investigation is based on the following sources 1) the files of the Camaragibe's factory in The Joaquim Na buco Institutc of Social Researches( FUNDAJ); 2) the newspaper files, whose objective was to recognize the speech of different social segments and their vision of the society where they lived and 3) the state laws. This two last sourccs are from the State Filling-cabinet of Pernambuco. Tn sumrnary, the construction of social dwellings at the beginnings of the XX Century in Recife represented a new territorial organization, where entire neighborhoods wcre created and still last to our days as the workers' places in the city.
