Abstract
Objective: To establish the relationship of working conditions and health with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in healthcare and administrative workers of a hospital in Sogamoso, Boyacá in 2013. Methodology: A descriptive study of a sample of the population consists of 90 people or 22% was carried out, including doctors, head nurses, nursing assistants, administrative assistants and administrative professionals. A joint poll survey to determine working conditions, health and the analysis of musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) symptoms, along with taking height and weight to calculate body mass index was applied. In the analysis of quantitative variables measures of central tendency and dispersion were used; for qualitative variables absolute frequencies and percentages were worked. OR data were obtained from an analysis of absolute frequency and binary logistic regression with a confidence interval of 95%. Results: The population was formed by 78 women (86.7%) and 12 men (13.3%), between 24 and 56 years old. The charges are the most representative Administrative Assistants and Nursing Assistants with 35.6% (32) and 38.9% (35) respectively. The most frequent musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) symptoms are back and the hand affecting 58.9% (53) and 45.6% (41) respectively. According to 93.3% of the participants, the biomechanical risk factor that has high influence on the DME is to perform repeated movements. Doctors show an Odds Ratio (OR) 4.2; Administrative Assistants have an OR 2.9 and has a higher chance of developing MSDs a Nursing Assistant. Conclusions: The most important factor for the presence of MSDs is the position in which they play, the Doctor being the one with more possibilities with an OR of 4.2. Some activities are presented as protective factors being the most relevant and not repetitive movements with an OR of 0.2. The population showed increased presence of musculoskeletal symptoms in back and hands; the most affected are Administrative Assistants and Nursing Assistants. It is important to increase early diagnosis, prevention, treatment and perform rehabilitation of workers at risk of or affected by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
