The main objective of this study is to elaborate a social interpretation taking into account as a main framework for literary analysis the work of Harper Lee (1926-2016), basically her two books: (i) “To Kill a Mockingbird” (1960); and (ii) “Go, Set a Watchman” (2015). This characterization is carried out in order to evidence essential aspects of racism and violence in American society both, in the thirties and forties, and under current conditions. In addition, and in a complementary but not less important way, Lee’s work is referred to the perspective of the loss of innocence and the first confrontations with the concrete world, from the children´s perspective -first book-as well as the optic that the same characters have, as adults, facing violence and social discrimination that still prevails in our society - second work. © 2017, Universidad del Zulia.
