Summary
A pesar de que existe una larga tradición de migraciones al exterior en Colombia, durante los últimos diez años ha habido un aumento significativo como consecuencia de eventos y circunstancias que han transformado abruptamente las condiciones de vida de la población colombiana. Este artículo se enfoca en estudiar el desarrollo de las tendencias de la tercera ola migratoria de la población colombiana al exterior entre los años 2005 y 2015, revisando los crecimientos y decrecimientos de dicha población hacia los destinos tradicionales, así como en detectar la aparición de nuevos destinos, la naturaleza de las migraciones hacia estos y las estimaciones del número de colombianos en estos países durante este periodo.
Abstract
Even though there has been a long tradition of emigrations in Colombia, only in thelast ten years has there been a significant increase as a result of events and circumstancesthat have transformed the lives of Colombian citizens. This article focuseson studying the trends of the third Colombian diaspora wave between 2005 and2015, reviewing the growth and decreases of the traditional destinations, as well asdetecting the emergence of new destinations, in terms of the nature of migration tothose destinations, and estimates of the actual number of Colombians in the recipientcountries throughout this period.
