Resumen

En un mundo cada vez más urbanizado y tecnológicamente orientado, la conexión con la tierra y el conocimiento sobre la producción de alimentos son aspectos fundamentales que a menudo se descuidan en la educación de los niños. La agricultura urbana emerge como una respuesta innovadora y educativa para reconectar a las nuevas generaciones con el ciclo natural de la vida y la importancia de la seguridad alimentaria. En este contexto, este proyecto se centra en la creación de kits y libros educativos de agricultura urbana diseñados específicamente para niños, con el objetivo de fomentar su participación activa en la siembra y cultivo de alimentos en entornos urbanos. La seguridad alimentaria se refiere a la disponibilidad, el acceso y el consumo adecuado de alimentos nutritivos y seguros para todos los individuos. Es un concepto multidimensional que abarca la producción agrícola, la distribución equitativa de alimentos, el acceso económico a los alimentos, la calidad y seguridad de los mismos. En el contexto de la agricultura urbana, la seguridad alimentaria se convierte en un tema crucial, ya que enseñar a los niños a cultivar sus propios alimentos no solo les proporciona habilidades prácticas, sino que también les enseña sobre la importancia de la autosuficiencia y la diversificación de fuentes de alimentos en entornos urbanos.

Abstract

In an increasingly urbanized and technology-oriented world, the connection to the land and knowledge about food production are fundamental aspects that are often neglected in children’s education. Urban agriculture emerges as an innovative and educational response to reconnect new generations with the natural cycle of life and the importance of food security. In this context, this project focuses on creating educational kits and books on urban agriculture specifically designed for children, with the aim of fostering their active participation in planting and growing food in urban environments. Food security refers to the availability, access, and adequate consumption of nutritious and safe food for all individuals. It is a multidimensional concept that encompasses agricultural production, equitable food distribution, economic access to food, and food quality and safety. In the context of urban agriculture, food security becomes a crucial issue, as teaching children to grow their own food not only provides them with practical skills but also teaches them about the importance of self-sufficiency and diversifying food sources in urban settings. Urban agriculture not only offers the opportunity to learn about the food production process in a practical way but also promotes autonomy and environmental responsibility from an early age. Through the direct experience of planting and caring for plants in their homes, children not only acquire basic agricultural skills but also develop a deeper understanding of the importance of biodiversity, sustainable resource management, and reducing ecological footprints in urban areas. In addition to the practical aspect, this project explores how educational kits for urban agriculture can effectively promote values of inclusion and diversity. By facilitating the exploration of traditional crops and food diversity, the project aims to raise children’s awareness of the importance of respecting and valuing different food identities and cultures. This dimension not only strengthens the understanding of cultural diversity but also fosters a deeper appreciation of food security as a fundamental human right, representative of independence and recognition.
