Asociación entre exposición a plaguicidas con trastorno por déficit de atención y negativo desafiante en infantes de área rural de Bogotá, Colombia

dc.descriptionExisten varios estudios realizados a nivel mundial acerca de la exposición prenatal y postnatal a plaguicidas y sus efectos en el neurodesarrollo. Sin embargo, en Colombia no se ha llevado a cabo este tipo de investigación y tampoco se ha realizado una caracterización de síndromes neuropsiquiátricos en población escolar de zonas rurales. Por esto, nuestro objetivo fue establecer la asociación entre síndromes neuropsiquiátricos y la exposición a plaguicidas (organofosforados y piretroides) utilizados con fines agrícolas en el área rural de Bogotá, específicamente en las regiones de Sumapaz y Usme. Para esto se realizó un estudio de corte transversal. Para la evaluación de la exposición fueron utilizados métodos de detección de metabolitos en orina y una encuesta adaptada a la zona. Para la evaluación de los síndromes neuropsiquiátricos se utilizó la herramienta ChIPS (entrevista para síndromes psiquiátricos en niños y adolescentes). Se usaron modelos de regresión logística binaria para evaluar esta asociación, ajustando por el sexo del niño, el nivel educativo de la madre, retraso del crecimiento y edad, en una población de 231 niños y niñas entre las edades de 7 y 10 años. El principal hallazgo fue que la exposición a clorpirifós aumenta el riesgo de ser diagnosticado con TDAH (OR = 2,5 IC 95% 0,88 – 7) y la exposición a propenofos aumenta el riesgo de ser diagnosticado con trastorno negativo desafiante (OR: 2,03, IC 95%: 1,06 - 3,91). Esto confirma una asociación entre la exposición a plaguicidas y el desarrollo de síndromes neuropsiquiátricos propios de la infancia en niños del área rural de Sumapaz y Usme, Colombia.es
dc.description.abstractThere are several studies carried out worldwide on prenatal and postnatal exposure to pesticides and their effects on neurodevelopment. However, this type of research has not been carried out in Colombia, nor there is a characterization of neuropsychiatric syndromes been carried out in schoolchildren in rural areas. Therefore, our objective was to establish the association between neuropsychiatric syndromes and exposure to pesticides (organophosphates and pyrethroids) used for agricultural purposes in the rural area of ​​Bogotá, specifically in the Sumapaz and Usme regions. For this, a cross-sectional study was carried out. For the evaluation of the exposure, methods of detection of metabolites in urine and a survey adapted to the area were used. For the evaluation of neuropsychiatric syndromes, the ChIPS tool (interview for psychiatric syndromes in children and adolescents) was used. Binary logistic regression models were used to assess this association, adjusting for child sex, mother's educational level, growth retardation, and age, in a population of 231 boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 10 years. The main finding was that exposure to chlorpyrifos increases the risk of being diagnosed with ADHD (OR = 2.5 95% CI 0.88 – 7) and exposure to propenophos increases the risk of being diagnosed with negative defiant disorder (OR: 2.03, 95% CI: 1.06 - 3.91). This confirms an association between exposure to pesticides and the development of childhood neuropsychiatric syndromes in children from the rural areas of Sumapaz and Usme, Colombia.es
