| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | Background: Atrophic acne scars are a therapeutic challenge, in recent years the collagen-induction therapy with microneedles (“microneedling”) has been proposed as a treatment option, offering promising results. A systematic review is proposed to evaluate the effects of microneedling for the treatment of atrophic acne scars. Methods: A systematic review was performed, including all observational, experimental and analytical articles published in the main databases in the last nine years, in order to evaluate and establish a recommendation grade for its use in patients with acne scars. Results: The related evidence was extracted from thirty eligible articles. The use of microneedling for the treatment of atrophic acne scars is considered as a safe and effective therapy, with minimal side effects in all skin phototypes. The association with other treatments such as platelet-rich plasma, CROSS technique, Erbium: YAG or CO2 laser, glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid chemical peels and subcision show better results. Discussion: The use of microneedling is recommended as a single treatment or associated with others, with evidence I recommendation B. The current study is presented as a starting point for future investigations in which it can be established if the choice between the available microneedling devices, length of needles and number of sessions performed offers different results. | spa |
