Abstract
This project proposes the design of a smart park adapted to the needs of today’s users in the city of Valledupar, Colombia. Parks are essential spaces for relaxation, social interaction, recreation, and contact with nature. However, many public parks remain outdated, with little use of technology, poor maintenance, and limited services that do not respond to the daily habits of modern citizens. The idea behind this proposal is to turn a traditional park into a space that is more useful, connected, inclusive, and environmentally friendly. The smart park would include elements such as Wi-Fi connectivity, interactive information systems, areas for physical activity, relaxation zones, eco-friendly energy sources like solar panels, and digital tools like mobile apps or QR codes to improve the visitor experience. These improvements aim to make the park not only a place to walk or rest but also a functional space for working, learning, socializing, or even charging electronic devices. The project also considers the importance of community participation through feedback systems and simple rewards that encourage responsible and active use of the space. A key part of this proposal is to create a park that adapts to different people: young users, older adults, tourists, families, and people working remotely. It also highlights the need to manage natural resources better, with water-saving systems and green infrastructure such as green roofs, rainwater tanks, and intelligent lighting. The methodology of the project includes document analysis, field observation, and a review of good practices in urban spaces. The final result is a set of recommendations for transforming the park into a more complete, inclusive, and sustainable place. This work shows that technology, when used in simple and meaningful ways, can help improve public spaces and make cities more livable.
