dc.descriptionEsta investigación propone una exploración crítica, poética y metodológica en torno al diseño especulativo y conceptual, abordando como eje central los procesos de renuncia por parte del artista o arquitecto a su disciplina de origen. Lejos de entender la renuncia como un fracaso o un retiro pasivo, se plantea aquí como una estrategia activa de distanciamiento, crítica y reformulación de lo proyectual. A partir de una revisión teórica y el análisis de casos significativos, como los de Fernando Martínez Sanabria, Aldo Rossi, Valerio Oligati y Peter Zumthor se construye una mirada alternativa sobre lo que significa "hacer arquitectura", incluyendo también formas de no hacer, de interrumpir, de desviar o de desobedecer el mandato disciplinar. La figura de Tapias Cardona, un personaje ficcional creado desde fragmentos, escenas y escrituras especulativas, encarna muchas de estas tensiones. Su renuncia a la arquitectura no implica dejar de proyectar, sino inventar otras formas de hacerlo: desde el diseño gráfico, la narrativa visual, el archivo íntimo y una sensibilidad queer. Tapias representa una voz crítica que desafía las estructuras tradicionales de formación, legitimación y autoría arquitectónica (y gráfica), abriendo espacio a formas de habitar la práctica desde lo no normado. La metodología combina investigación teórica, escritura creativa, análisis de referentes, diseño de abecedarios temáticos, especulación gráfica y curaduría crítica. Estas herramientas permiten articular una comprensión expandida de la arquitectura que incluye tanto lo visible como lo invisible, tanto la obra como el gesto, lo construido y lo imaginado. En síntesis, este trabajo sostiene que la renuncia no representa una pérdida para la arquitectura, sino la posibilidad de ensayar otros caminos para pensarla, sentirla y proyectarla. La arquitectura que no se construye, que no se valida en el mercado ni en el canon académico, también produce sentido, crítica y futuro. La renuncia, entendida como proyecto, se configura entonces como una forma radical de diseño: una práctica que, desde la ausencia o el desvío, abre nuevas posibilidades de imaginar lo arquitectónico.
dc.description.abstractThis research proposes a critical, poetic, and methodological exploration of speculative and conceptual design, taking as its central axis the processes by which the artist or architect renounces their discipline of origin. Far from understanding renunciation as failure or passive withdrawal, it is proposed here as an active strategy of distancing, critique, and reformulation of the projective act. Through a theoretical review and the analysis of significant cases—such as those of Fernando Martínez Sanabria, Aldo Rossi, Valerio Olgiati, and Peter Zumthor—an alternative perspective is constructed on what it means to “do architecture,” one that also includes forms of not-doing, interrupting, diverting, or disobeying the disciplinary mandate. The figure of Tapias Cardona, a fictional character created from fragments, scenes, and speculative writings, embodies many of these tensions. His renunciation of architecture does not mean ceasing to project, but rather inventing other ways of doing so: through graphic design, visual narrative, intimate archiving, and a queer sensitivity. Tapias represents a critical voice that challenges the traditional structures of training, legitimation, and authorship in architecture (and graphic design), opening space for ways of inhabiting the practice from the non-normative. The methodology combines theoretical research, creative writing, analysis of precedents, the design of thematic alphabets, graphic speculation, and critical curatorship. These tools make it possible to articulate an expanded understanding of architecture—one that encompasses both the visible and the invisible, the work and the gesture, the built and the imagined. In sum, this work argues that renunciation does not represent a loss for architecture, but rather the possibility of rehearsing other paths to think, feel, and project it. Architecture that is not built, not validated by the market or the academic canon, still produces meaning, critique, and future. Renunciation, understood as a project, thus takes shape as a radical form of design: a practice that, from absence or deviation, opens new possibilities for imagining the architectural.
