Entrepreneurial success relies on various components of human capital, from technical capabilities to individual skills, competencies, and other attributes, that vary according to venture context and development stage. Although scholars have identified different entrepreneurial skills, a consistent and domain-sensitive taxonomy of entrepreneurial capabilities, competencies, skills, and abilities does not exist. Consequently, both academic knowledge construction and developing targeted training specific to an entrepreneurial skill or ability are more difficult. To fill the knowledge gap, a co-word analysis technique was employed to identify twelve distinct clusters, each representing a repository of context-specific capabilities and competencies. The first-level framework was created, which distinguished between tacit and explicit knowledge. Then, we created a second-level framework building on stage one to identify where each construct, as used in context, sits as tacit or explicit knowledge. Our strategy generated (1) a data-rich catalogue of entrepreneurship traits (12 clusters) and (2) a classification scheme in the framework to extract the constructs from their knowledge dimension. By organizing an understanding of terminology across disciplines of entrepreneurship, and by categorizing it specifically in terms of knowledge types, our framework is a coherent taxonomy to guide future research, curriculum development, and policy implementation. Specifically, it provides a focused blueprint for educators and practitioners to widen the capacity for their knowledge assets to foster entrepreneurial success.
