| dc.description.abstract | This document explores and analyzes the domains and spheres of professional action in occupational therapy, understood as "the field of practice" that distinguishes the actions of occupational therapists and, in turn, contributes to the development of the profession. Grounded in a framework of professional reasoning, the paper highlights, through evidence, the dissonance between how occupational therapists say what they do and how they do it. It also examines the relationship between the foundations of the discipline and the competencies required for ethical, critical, and transformative professional practice. The reflections presented focus on identifying different conceptions associated with professional domains and spheres of action, drawing on the academic literature specific to occupational therapy. These are placed in dialogue with the minimum educational standards set by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). Based on this, the document outlines six domains and builds arguments to justify the significance they bring to the sphere of professional action, using occupation as the central lens and foundational core, with the aim of strengthening and aligning professional identity. Finally, this analysis is proposed as a resource to foster innovation in occupational therapy curricula and to promote dialogue between academia and professional practice. | |
