Abstract
This paper presents the technical study, financial evaluation, and risk management analysis associated with the design of a photovoltaic system at the Instituto Murgas School in Valledupar, Cesar, with the aim of ensuring the school's energy sustainability and reducing its dependence on the electrical grid. The methodology used was structured in three phases: (1) the first phase consisted of the technical development of the photovoltaic system, where the energy consumption profile, the availability of solar resources, and the selection of optimal components for its operation were analyzed. This was also validated using PVsyst software; (2) the second phase included the financial evaluation, focused on determining costs, benefits, and savings projections through the identification of costs; (3) in the third phase, an integrated risk management model was developed based on ISO 31000 standards and the Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology, which allowed for the identification, classification, and prioritization of technical, financial, operational, environmental, and regulatory risks. This study demonstrates that implementing a photovoltaic system in educational institutions is a viable alternative that helps achieve energy efficiency, reduces operating costs, and is a key element in fostering a culture of environmental sustainability. This study can be replicated in similar settings, contributing to the progress and strengthening of renewable energy use in Colombia.
