A new Cricosaurus (Crocodilomorpha: Thalattosuchia) from the early Cretaceous (Valanginian) of Zapatoca, Colombia and its larger size compared to other thalattosuchians.

dc.descriptionThalattosuchia es un clado de crocodilomorfos del Mesozoico que se distribuyó mundialmente. Todas estas especies se separaron en dos grupos principales: Metriorhynchidae y Teleosauridae, que tienen especímenes con diferentes tamaños, algunos de los mÔs grandes: Dakosaurus maximus relacionado con el clado Metriorhynchidae y Machimosaurus rex con Teleosauridae. Aquí describimos un nuevo espécimen de Cricosaurus encontrado en Zapatoca, Colombia. El espécimen fue llevado a los laboratorios de la Universidad del Rosario; tan pronto como llegó allí, se agregó a una matriz. Esta se utilizó en el programa TNT para obtener un Ôrbol filogenético. Finalmente, se utilizó una ecuación de regresión lineal para determinar el tamaño corporal utilizando la longitud del crÔneo. Un anÔlisis filogenético sugiere que este espécimen es parte del clado Cricosaurus y probablemente una nueva especie. AdemÔs, la regresión lineal ve que este espécimen es uno de los Thalattosuchia mÔs grandes encontrados hasta ahora.
dc.description.abstractThalattosuchia is a crocodylomorpha clade from the Mesozoic that was distributed worldwide. All these species were separated into two main groups: Metriorhynchidae and Teleosauridae, which have specimen with different sizes, some of the greatest: Dakosaurus maximus related to the Metriorhynchidae clade and Machimosaurus rex with Teleosauridae. Here we describe a new Cricosaurus specimen found in Zapatoca, Colombia. The specimen was taken to the Universidad del Rosario laboratories; as soon as it got there, it was added to a matrix. This one was used on the TNT program to get a phylogenetic tree. Finally, a linear regression equation was used to determine the body size using the skull length. A Phylogenetic analysis suggests that this specimen is part of the Cricosaurus clade and probably a new species. Also, the linear regression sees that this specimen is one of the greatest Thalattosuchia found until now.
