dc.descriptionEl surgimiento de una comunidad en línea de hombres predominantemente jóvenes denominada incels presenta un riesgo para la seguridad nacional y, potencialmente, internacional, vinculado a 59 asesinatos. Esta investigación busca comprender el fenómeno incel a través de la perspectiva de las "ramas secas" (bare branches), un concepto derivado de los Estudios Feministas de Seguridad: varones jóvenes de bajo estatus en Asia que no pueden encontrar pareja debido a la asimetría en la proporción de sexos y que son responsables de cometer la mayoría de los delitos violentos dentro de un Estado. Esto conduce al objetivo de determinar si los incels son una manifestación occidental de las ramas secas. Se aplicó un estudio de caso de los incels en los Estados Unidos, guiado por teorías y conceptos, utilizando fuentes cuantitativas secundarias como métodos de recopilación de datos para analizar las tendencias en el trabajo, la educación y la desigualdad de la riqueza, abordando así un vacío en la literatura respecto a las causas estructurales del fenómeno incel. Los hallazgos sugieren que muchos incels forman parte del grupo de hombres afectados por el rendimiento educativo superior de las mujeres, la disminución de los salarios reales y de los empleos para los trabajadores de cuello azul, así como por el mantenimiento de expectativas rígidas sobre los roles de género, lo que crea un grupo de hombres sin pareja y de bajo estatus triggered por el feminismo.
dc.description.abstractThe rise of an online community of predominantly young men denominated incels presents a domestic security risk and, potentially, an international one, linked to 59 murders. This investigation seeks to understand inceldom through the lens of bare branches, a concept derived from Feminist Security Studies: low-status young males in Asia who are unable to mate due to skewed sex ratios and are responsible for committing the majority of violent crime within a state. This leads to the objective of determining whether incels are a Western manifestation of bare branches. A theory and concept driven case study of incels in the United States with secondary quantitative sources as methods for data collection was applied to analyze trends in labor, education and wealth inequality, addressing a gap in the literature concerning the structural causes of inceldom. Findings suggest that many incels are part of the group of men affected by the educational outperformance of women, a decline in real wages and jobs for blue collar workers as well as the maintenance of rigid gender role expectations, creating a group of low status, unpartnered men triggered by feminism.
