| dc.description.abstract | This study addresses student disengagement from a university service-learning experience at a regional university in Tolima, Colombia. The problem stems from the concentration of fourteen academic credits at the end of the degree program, a condition that leads students to perceive the experience as a rigid obstacle to graduation and as an activity disconnected from the rest of the curriculum. To address this issue, a pedagogical innovation process was developed in two phases. First, the problem was diagnosed using the 5W2H technique and causal analysis through a problem tree, which enabled the formulation, during the ideation stage, of a solution based on the progressive distribution of the fourteen credits beginning in the fifth semester. In the second phase, the innovation was classified as a radical transformation in configuration, hypotheses related to desirability and feasibility were prioritized, and two experimentation cycles were conducted with students and faculty serving as curriculum guides, using low- and medium-fidelity prototypes, including journey maps and a Google site. The results revealed a high level of favorable engagement among both stakeholder groups, while also highlighting the need to clearly communicate that the progressive distribution of credits does not constitute an additional academic workload, but rather a gradual and meaningful integration of service-learning experiences into students’ academic trajectories. These findings made it possible to consolidate a student- and faculty-centered value proposition, structured around a progressive pathway of territorial experiences and a structural component of faculty support and guidance. The future agenda includes co-creation workshops with educational partners, the development of a curricular restructuring proposal for consideration by the university’s governing bodies, and the potential submission of an application to modify the qualified registration (registro calificado) before Colombia’s Ministry of National Education, with a view to institutionally scaling the proposed solution in the medium and long term. | |
