| dc.description.abstract | Background: Substance use disorder involves problematic patterns of use that cause significant impairment due to physical and mental dependence. Psychoeducation is essential to understanding addiction, identifying triggers, and choosing treatments. Online psychoeducation offers accessibility, reduces stigma, updates information, empowers, reduces costs and facilitates follow-up in the recovery process for patients and their families. Methodology: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA-ScR. Studies were searched in PubMed, Scopus, and LILACS between August 2025 and January 2026. 1610 records were identified; after removing 362 duplicates, 1248 titles and abstracts were screened. 38 full texts were assessed, and 25 studies were included. Results: Studies were published between 2009 and 2025, mainly in Europe and North America. Methodological designs were diverse and included randomized controlled trials, pre-post studies, feasibility studies, and mixed-methods studies. Interventions comprised mobile applications, online programs, face-to-face group interventions, family-based strategies, and multicomponent programs. The most frequently assessed outcomes were substance use, relapse, craving, treatment retention, acceptability, knowledge, well-being, and family-related variables. Most studies reported favorable results for psychoeducation. Discussion: The evidence suggests that psychoeducation is a versatile and promising strategy within the comprehensive management of substance use disorders. Nevertheless, heterogeneity in intervention descriptions, comparators, and assessment tools limits cross-study comparability. Conclusions: Psychoeducation shows potential utility across different healthcare settings, both as a therapeutic adjunct and as family support. More standardized and comparative studies are needed to better define its clinical scope. | |
