Influencia de las dinámicas de género en las relaciones interprofesionales que experimentan las residentes mujeres del área quirúrgica

dc.descriptionIntroducción Las estudiantes de especializaciones quirúrgicas siguen viviendo los prejuicios implícitos relacionados con el género. Estos influyen negativamente en la colaboración profesional, sin embargo, no hay evidencia de cómo estas dinámicas de género impactan en las relaciones interprofesionales de las residentes quirúrgicas. Métodos Realizamos una investigación cualitativa utilizando el enfoque de la Teoría Fundamentada Constructivista informada por la teoría de los Mundos Figurados. Para la recolección de datos se realizaron grupos focales y entrevistas semiestructuradas a 17 residentes mujeres de disciplinas quirúrgicas de diferentes niveles de aprendizaje. Quiénes se encontraban rotando en el Hospital Universitario Clínica San Rafael. Utilizamos la recolección y el análisis iterativo de datos, métodos de comparación constante y muestreo teórico para construir nuestros hallazgos analizándolos con la plataforma Quirkos ®. Resultados Las residentes de especialidades quirúrgicas perciben los sesgos de género no solo de parte de los docentes y otros médicos del equipo quirúrgico, sino también de otras profesiones, específicamente de profesionales mujeres como: enfermeras e instrumentadoras.; de quienes perciben un desafío constante a su autoridad que termina afectando su trabajo y finalmente su proceso de aprendizaje, y responden de dos maneras diferentes, con un discurso más autoritario o con uno más diplomático y conciliador e incluso algunas prefieren no responder a ese reto. Discusión Aprender a identificar y dar solución a los retos interprofesionales a los que se enfrentan las residentes en el ambiente quirúrgico mejorará su experiencia como estudiante y posteriormente como profesional, no solo en beneficio propio, sino del resto del equipo y finalmente del paciente. Este propósito debe ser compartido por los docentes y demás profesionales.
dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Female surgical specialty trainees persistently encounter implicit gender-related biases that negatively impact professional collaboration. However, there is currently no evidence to suggest how these gender dynamics affect the interprofessional relationships of surgical residents. Methods: Qualitative research was conducted using the Constructivist Grounded Theory approach, informed by Figured Worlds theory. Focus groups and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 female residents from surgical disciplines at different levels of learning for data collection. The participants were on rotation at the Hospital Universitario Clínica San Rafael. Iterative data collection and analysis, constant comparison methods, and theoretical sampling were employed to build the findings, which were analyzed with the Quirkos® platform. Results: Surgical specialty residents perceive gender biases not only from teachers and other physicians of the surgical team, but also from other professions, specifically from female professionals such as nurses and instrumentalists. These biases manifest as a constant challenge to their authority, which ultimately affects their work and learning process. In response, residents employ two distinct approaches: a more authoritarian discourse or a more diplomatic and conciliatory one. Some residents even choose to refrain from responding to these challenges. Discussion: The ability to identify and provide solutions to the interprofessional challenges faced by surgical residents will enhance their educational experience and, subsequently, their professional practice. This will not only benefit the residents themselves but also the wider surgical team and, ultimately, the patients they treat. It is therefore essential that faculty and other professionals share this objective.
