Validacion de la Escala de Reacciones ante Experiencias de Trato Desigual en Salud

2020-10-31, Baeza Rivera Maria Jose, Salinas Oñate Natalia, Escandon Nagel Neli, Caamaño Mardones Esteban

Introduction: This study aimed to estimate the psychometric properties of the Scale of Reactions to Experiences of Unequal Treatment in Health from BaezaRivera (2015) and to determine any statistically significant differences between those using the private and public healthcare systems and those belonging to the Mapuche ethnic group Materials and Methods The Scale of Reactions to Experiences of Unequal Treatment in Health was used in 337 participants (mostly women) with a mean age of 31 years Of these 57% reportedly used the public healthcare system and 32% belonged to the Mapuche ethnic group Subsequently exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis using Cronbach’s alpha and factorial analysis of variance were conducted Results The findings demonstrated that this scale has ideal psychometric properties such as reliability and factorial validity and it can be used in a population with characteristics similar to those of the sample population used in this study Additionally statistically significant differences were observed between those using the healthcare systems and those belonging to the Mapuche ethnic group Conclusions This scale shows adequate psychometric properties such as the two related factors reliability and factorial validity and can be used in healthrelated contexts thus allowing for an understanding of health–disease processes

Bias-corrected high-resolution precipitation datasets assessment over a tropical mountainous region in Colombia

2024-07-15, Romero-Hernández, Clara Marcela, Avila-Diaz, A., Quesada, Benjamín, Medeiros, F., Cerón, W. L., Guzman-Escalante, J., Zuluaga, C. F.

Surface gauge measurements have been ommonly employed to analyze the precipitation’s high spatial and temporal variability. However, incomplete area coverage and deficiencies over most tropical and complex topography mean significant limitations of this measurement type. Satellite-derived datasets, combined with the integration of in-situ observations with satellite data, are an alternative to address these limitations by offering a more spatially homogeneous and temporally comprehensive coverage for scarce data areas of the globe. Nevertheless, applying a bias correction technique on the precipitation datasets is still necessary before they are used for research due to their considerable bias. Here, we analyze the performance of CHIRPS, WorldClim, and TerraClimate datasets compared to data from 30 rain gauge stations over the South-West of Colombia, specifically in the Upper Cauca River Basin-UCRB between 1981 and 2018. Additionally, we applied the Quantile Mapping correction to all gridded precipitation products, and subsequently, the corrected rainfall is compared to the observed data on the monthly, seasonal, and annual scale. Our results show that the CHIRPS dataset better captures the seasonal and monthly variability. CHIRPS presents the best performance during less rainy seasons and at low elevation zones (900–2000 m above sea level-m.a.s.l.), followed by TerraClimate. Utilizing the bias correction methodology, we generated a new, corrected, and more reliable monthly precipitation time series for each location from all gridded precipitation products. Additionally, we found that the correction of the CHIRPS dataset presented the best performance across all spatiotemporal scales in the UCRB. Therefore, this study provides an accurate precipitation database for a complex topographic tropical region with limited data availability.

The sensemaking of management researchers in colombia about their field of knowledge

, Sanabria Rangel, José Mauricio, Saavedra Mayorga J.J., Smida A.

This paper presents the results of a research project carried out as part of the line on strategy of the Research Group on Corporate lasting (Grupo de investigación en Perdurabilidad empresarial - GiPe), at the Universidad del Rosario’s school of management (Bogotá, Colombia). the objective of the project was to understand the sensemaking of management researchers about their own field of knowledge. a qualitative approach was used for this purpose, which identified and then gathered and analyzed (using qualitative content analysis, thematic coding and atlas.ti v. 6.2 software) the publications of the researchers in Colombia’s principal academic resources on management. the results of the analysis show that the researchers in this field of knowledge coincide in three areas of interest: 1) academic programs and education, 2) scientific production and research, and 3) business schools management. it was also possible to identify, in this context, the rudiments of a process of disciplinary development, similar to that one that occurred some decades ago in the United states and Europe.

As is true about many sciences, knowledge in medicine used to be kept under the utmost secrecy, private only to those few persons that devoted their lives to healing. Today, however, in the era of information, everybody knows and, more importantly, everybody wants to know about medicine. It is then when the existence of scientists willing and able to divulge technical knowledge for all people becomes crucial. For this purpose there was none other like Oliver Sacks. With his unique tell-tale writing style and his contagious smile, he was a beacon for patients and people stumbling in the dark, looking for answers, and an example for everyone in the field of neuroscience.

Abstract The purpose of this article is to illustrate how, from an extended ritual device, social forces changed in the postapartheid South Africa, helping reconciliation and the consolidation of national unity. In addition, the paper studies how the story-telling of this device creates a foundational myth: the Rainbow Nation. This article is the research result of the Line “History, Culture and Political Philosophy” at the Faculty of Political Science and Government at the University of Rosario. It presents a political phenomenon, almost religious, departing from concepts and theories of anthropologists Marc Augé and Mircea Eliade. Based on secondary sources (videos, interviews, books, academic researches), the article shows how a sports event was applied as a ritual, which consolidated the social bases of the new political project of the South Africa postapartheid; and how from this ritual, a myth was built, a historical reference for the new nation. The article has an original approach insofar as it links anthropological concepts to analyze a political process; and illustrates the functioning and usefulness of rituals and myths in contemporaneity as well.
