Resumen
En el presente documento, se quiere presentar la importancia de la preservación y el cuidado del medio ambiente por su relevancia e impacto alrededor del mundo, debido al cambio climático y la atención limitada que se le da al tema en diferentes grupos de interés. Es por esta razón, que las industrias han tomado un rol significativo en efectuar acciones que mitiguen dicho impacto y que, por otro lado, se establezcan medidas que mejoren los procesos de las empresas. Este documento se enfocará en evidenciar los beneficios de la implementación de la norma ISO 14001 e ISO 26000 (capítulo 6.5) que se basan en la protección y cuidado del medio ambiente. El principal objetivo de este estudio es evidenciar los beneficios que obtienen las empresas colombianas al implementar las dos normas al mismo tiempo, con respecto a las empresas que solo aplican la norma 14001 o la ISO 26000. Se busca resaltar la importancia de aplicar las dos normas ya que esto permitiría que una empresa sea más competitiva y sostenible en el tiempo. Cabe resaltar que, para la entidad ISO (Organización internacional de normalización), la norma 14001 sí es certificable, mientras que la 26000 no lo es; por lo cual, esta última, en general no es muy aplicada por las empresas. Adicionalmente se presentará un ejemplo puntual de una empresa colombiana que, como consecuencia de sus actividades, ocasionan un alto impacto ambiental pero que, aun así, se considera una empresa exitosa por la responsabilidad de mitigar y reducir el impacto al medio ambiente.
Abstract
In this document, we want to highlight the importance of preserving and caring for the environment due to its relevance and high impact around the world, due to climate change and the lack of attention that has been given to the subject by different interest groups. It is for this reason, that the industries have taken a significant role in carrying out actions that mitigate the mentioned impact by establishing measures to improve the processes of the companies. This document will focus on evidencing the benefits of implementing the ISO 14001 and ISO 26000 (Chapter 6.5) standards, that are based on the protection and care of the environment. The main objective of this study is to show the benefits that Colombian companies obtain by implementing the two standards at the same time, in contrast to companies that only apply the ISO 14001 or ISO 26000 standard. It seeks to highlight the importance of applying the two standards since this would allow a company to be more competitive and sustainable over time. It should be noted that, for the ISO entity (International Standard Organization), the 14001 standard is certifiable, while the 26000 is not; therefore, in general the ISO 26000 is not widely applied by companies. Additionally, a specific example of a Colombian company will be presented that, because of its activities, causes a high environmental impact but, even so, is considered a successful company due to the responsibility of mitigating and reducing the environmental impact.
