This research work was carried out with the aim of identifying the main logistical challenges in the jewelry supply chain that hinder the implementation of sustainable practices. This project was developed taking into account the growing demand for sustainable practices in the jewelry industry by consumers who are increasingly aware of the social and environmental responsibility of their purchases, which directly affects the jewelry supply chain as it is related to the mining industry in terms of obtaining its raw materials and which has problems associated with negative environmental impacts and association with social problems in the areas where these materials are extracted. The methodological approach focuses on three aspects, the first being a literature review that allowed us to identify relevant literature from both the mining and jewelry industries in order to have the elements for analyzing the jewelry supply chain that covers from the extraction of raw materials to the delivery of the product to customers. A second aspect related to an interview with actors in the emerald mining and jewelry supply chain in Colombia and a third aspect that includes the analysis of a case study of the company Tiffany & Co. The results of the study allowed the mapping of the jewelry supply chain with the identification of the different actors in the chain and using the theories related to the modeling of supply chains through supply network maps suitable for the jewelry supply chain. The conclusions of the study show the logistical challenges to include sustainable practices in the supply chain identified in terms of the effective integration of the actors, rather than an exclusion of artisanal entrepreneurs who constitute an important part of the study. In addition, challenges were identified in terms of regulations and their rea impacts on the inclusion of sustainability in the chain.
